Citigroup is considering providing custody and payment services for stablecoins and cryptocurrency ETFs to further expand its presence in the digital asset sector.
Biswarip Chatterjee, Global Head of Collaboration and Innovation at Citigroup, stated that the company's primary focus is to provide custody services for high-quality assets that support stablecoins.
Meanwhile, Citigroup is also researching the provision of custody for digital assets such as Bitcoin spot ETFs, which is currently dominated by Coinbase.
In addition, Citigroup is also developing a plan to use stablecoins to improve cross-border payment and instant settlement efficiency. The plan is to allow customers to directly transfer stablecoins between accounts or exchange them for US dollars in real time, thereby improving the speed and convenience of international payments
