Lee Chang-yong, the head of the Bank of Korea, said on the 19th that "the Ministry of Planning and Finance of Korea and the Bank of Korea will definitely discuss how to regulate stablecoins issued overseas."
At the meeting of the National Assembly's Planning and Finance Committee on that day, Democratic Party member Kim Tae-nyeon pointed out: "The United States, Japan, and the European Union have respectively passed the GENIUS Act, the Fund Settlement Act, and the Market Regulation of Crypto Assets Act (MiCA) to basically prohibit the sale and trading of stablecoins issued overseas within their borders. Shouldn't we regulate in order to prevent infringement on monetary sovereignty?" Lee Chang-yong responded to this by saying, "We are studying whether we can implement regulatory measures similar to the MiCA Act in the European Union."
